For me, the most exciting part about design is learning about people’s experience. I view design, not as a way to create things for people, but as a way of providing tools to inspire and enable people to create their own and unique experiences.

Whether it’s other designers, clients, or users that’s always something new to be learned. With every project, I value spending time with these people and growing from their own experiences.
Users are the experts of their own experiences. Listening is invaluable. UX isn’t about creating an experience for someone, but rather about providing tools for people to create their own great experiences.
Tax filing software doesn’t need to be the most exciting thing out there, but it could always benefit from being a bit more pleasant. I find that a touch of fun can go a long way when it comes to how people experience things.
To clarify, rules are in place for a reason. Sometimes, however, there’s a better reason to break them. Being innovative and disruptive comes with considering the possibility that the right way may not be right.
